In case you were wondering: the J is Josh, the L is Lauren. Janis put her kids in the name from the very beginning, and thirty-five years later, they are the ones behind the counter.
Everything about J&L begins with Janis. She opened this store in 1991 and spent decades building something you cannot order online: a jewelry store where customers become friends. She set the standard we still work by, that every piece deserves care, every customer deserves honesty, and every visit should feel like coming back to a place you belong.
From the very first day, Janis refused to let J&L feel stuffy. She wanted a jewelry store where moms could bring their little ones, and where no one would ever feel judged or out of place. More than anything, she saw it as a ministry of loving people. For a while we even gave away lunch every Friday, catered by a local business, and hundreds and hundreds of people came through our doors. Someone would stop in for a watch battery and find a casserole and a salad waiting at the front of the store.
That was always the point. Janis wanted J&L to feel like home: a place where you are seen, you are heard, and you are taken care of with service you can trust. It is the standard we hold ourselves to every single day.
Though Janis is no longer with us, her love is still in every corner of this store. We miss her every day, and we carry her legacy with every customer who walks through our door.
Every family business has a quiet hero, and ours is our dad, Michael. Janis’s husband and her partner in life, he has always loved and supported this family in ways most people never see, cheering us on from behind the scenes.
Today he is still doing just that, making sure Janis’s legacy carries on in her honor. His name may not be on the sign, but his love is in every part of this place.
Josh and Lauren grew up in this store, and today they run it the way Janis taught them: doors wide open, honest advice, and a whole lot of love. Meet the J and the L.
Josh runs J&L day to day, and he is the one you will find behind the counter. From custom pieces and redesigns to overseeing every repair that comes through the door, Josh handles the pieces that matter most with the same care Janis built this store on. He grew up here, and now he keeps it sparkling.
Lauren is the voice and sparkle of J&L. She grew up in this store, and today she helps Janis’s legacy live on by keeping the timeless goodness that made J&L feel like home while bringing in the fresh, modern touches that make it shine today. Classic kindness, new sparkle, same family. And if you follow @jnljewelry, those hands modeling all the sparkle? Most likely Lauren’s. It’s a rough job, but she handles it like a pro.
The people who make J&L feel like home, every single day.
